Booking and Preparing for Your Session
What you need to know before your baby’s studio photoshoot.
Congratulations on the newest addition to your precious family! These first few days & weeks are just so magical and it is such an honor to capture your baby during this special time. Here are some tips & tricks I’ve found to be super helpful in preparing for your newborn session so it can be as fun, stress-free, and enjoyable as possible.
Scheduling Newborn Session
Ideally, I always recommend booking as soon as you know you want photos. I would advise booking your session in your second or third trimester, we don't set a session date until the baby is born. Some time between when you go into labor or shortly after you arrive home we will set a date. I only have two newborn sessions available in a week. I will schedule your appointment at my in-home studio when your baby is between 7-21 days young. Newborn sessions take approximately 2-3 hours depending on the type of session and baby's temperament (I work at the baby's pace). I typically start around 10:00 a.m. and I currently only offer weekdays.
When to Get in Touch to Schedule the Session:
- Essentially, as soon as your baby is born. Once things settle down, please do not hesitate to email or call (or text whatever method you prefer) to let me know your sweet baby is here so we can reserve a spot for them in my home studio!
- Sessions take place between 7 and 21 days young. The sooner you can let me know the baby has arrived, the sooner we can make sure you have some date options to choose from during the 7-21 day age range.
- Sessions are on weekday mornings. Newborns are most sleepy & content earlier in the day. Sessions can start at 10:00 a.m. Newborn sessions are on weekday mornings unless I happen to have a rare Saturday morning opening.
- Let me know if there is a certain setup or prop you would love me to use. Feel free to take a look at my website, Facebook, or Instagram account & if you see something you want us to try, shoot me an email so I can have it ready.

When should newborn pictures be taken?
The best time is between 7 - 21 days after birth. These can also be taken up to 7 weeks but poses may be limited.
What do parents wear for newborn pictures?
Wear white/cream, black, neutrals, or pastels. White is timeless and complements the newness and innocence of the baby. Neutrals work well to keep the attention on the baby and away from your clothing. Pastels also have that “new baby” look and are great if you want to coordinate your outfits with the nursery.
Why you should do newborn photos?
These photos will allow you to capture your newborn in a bunch of adorable poses so that you can look back on your child as a baby for many years to come.
